Sayulita is a village about 25 miles north of downtown Puerto Vallarta in the state of Nayarit, Mexico, with a population of approximately 4,000.  Sayulita is definitely becoming more popular with tourists, which has done nothing to tarnish its dramatic wild beauty, and new shops and other business are lending to a more trendy feel to the place year by year.

A small stream divides the town in two, the north end being more residential with Sayulita villas.  There are luxury villa rentals in Sayulita located on the hillside and beachfront, offering spectacular views of Sayulita bay.  Unless you are staying high up on the hills, it's easy to walk to the main plaza, even crossing the river on foot.

There is never a shortage of things to do in Sayulita, whether it is enjoying a fine dinner at a local restaurant, catching a late-night set performed by one of the local bands, or enjoying a photo exhibit at a local shop.  It's all there, albeit, in much smaller proportions than in Puerto Vallarta.

Most of the action in Sayulita takes place in and around the town's main plaza, which is located two small blocks away from the beach.  Surrounding the plaza, a radius of several blocks features a variety of shops selling everything from traditional Mexican artifacts to surfing gear.  Sayulita is home to a large number of jewelers who craft wristbands, earrings and other accessories by hand, frequently incorporating natural elements into their design.

Surfing in Sayulita, Mexico offers a fantastic addition to any Sayulita villa vacation.  The waves are perfect for all skill levels including beginners (first time), intermediate, and advanced surfers.  Waves break in the bay all year round with the best months being December through early April, as that is when the north swells hit.

If you want to cook at your Sayulita villa, there are plenty of basic staples available in the village.  There are a number of small grocery stores in town.  One of the most fun ways to shop is the pick-up trucks that circulate through Sayulita offering fresh produce, fish and shrimp.  For fresh fish, visit Pescaderia Piolin near the road bridge; and for meat there are now modern butchers shops in town.  Sayulita truly offers a great selection of fresh fish and meats to enjoy at your Sayulita villa.

Most of the local action in Sayulita is at Don Pedros, a popular restaurant with live music and a great scene.  Don Pedro's is on the beach.  Also, you can enjoy a pleasant evening just hanging out around the plaza enjoying someone’s guitar music and doing a little jewelry shopping before going back to relax at your villa.
